Ron Colbers studied at the Royal Dutch Conservatory in The Hague, where in 1992 he attained his diploma in performance and teaching music. From 1992 until 1998 he was a member of the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag (Percussion Group The Hague). In this period he also worked with various 'modern music' ensembles. On a theatrical level Ron was also active, working on productions with the National Theatre, Theatre Group Amsterdam, Hollandia, Theater a/h Spui and as a soundman for the opera 'Rosa, A Horse Drama' by The Netherlands Opera. Ron presently works with Anumadutchi, Stichting TAMAR (children-music-theatre) and as a freelancer with various orchestras and ensembles. .
Murk Jiskoot studied classical percussion at the Royal Dutch Conservatory in The Hague under the tuition of Wim de Vos and Luuk Nagtegaal. For his exam in 1988 he was awarded the Nicolaï Prize from the conservatory.
Next to his freelance engagements with various Dutch chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestras, Murk dedicated himself to the study and performance of solo percussion. This often happened in close collaboration with the composers of the relevant compositions. The presentation of '13 Drums' for the Japanese composer Maki Ishii resulted in an invitation to go to Tokyo to record this piece on CD.
Besides this, as a member of the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag (from 1989 until 1998) Murk Jiskoot played in many domestic and foreign tours. Apart from playing composed modern works, this percussion group kept him intensively busy with the study of particular African percussion 'cultures'. Anumadutchi originated from this and since its inception, Murk has been the business manager and joint artistic director with Wim Vos. Since 1998, Murk Jiskoot has had a permanent position with the percussion section of the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague.
Niels van Hoorn (Leiderdorp 19-09-1970) received his first drum lessons from Fred Cohen at the age of seven. In 1982 he was accepted into the 'AVO' program at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. After attaining his 'HAVO' diploma he was then accepted into the main subject course at the same institution, where he was tutored by Luuk Nagtegaal, Wim Vos and Ali N'Diaye. In 1993 he attained his diploma in the 'Performance and Teaching of Music'. This was followed by a two-year study period at the Rotterdam Conservatory under Peter Ypma, Hans van Oosterhout and Fred Krens
Since 1994 Niels has been a member of the percussion/theatre group 'Percossa'. From 1995 until 1999 he also played in 'Circle Percussion', an ensemble specialised in the form of Japanese percussion. Niels is also active in the freelance industry, working with various orchestras and ensembles, and is a percussion teacher at the 'Bergschenhoek, Berkel & Rodenrijs and Bleiswijk' music school. He has been a member with Anumadutchi since its inception.
Tom van der Loo (on the picture together with Domingos Mbande) studied at the Utrecht Conservatory under the tuition of Michael de Roo and then continued his training at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague under Luuk Nagtegaal and Wim Vos. He graduated with distinction and was awarded the Nicolaï prize for his final exam. Since 1996 Tom has been a member with Anumadutchi and since 1994 has also been a member of the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag. As freelancer he is also active with various orchestras and ensembles.
In 2000, Tom was appointed teacher with the music school in Warmond.
Emiel Matthijsse was born on the 29-9-1971 in Geldrop. His received his first percussion lessons at the local 'Fanfare'. From 1980 he was taught by J. Anthonisse at the music school in Middelburg, and continued his training at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague from 1989 to 1995 where he received tuition from Wim Vos and Luuk Nagtegaal. In 1995 he attained his U.M. diploma. Since 1992 he has been a permanent member of 'Slagwerkgroep Den Haag' and since 1993 with Anumadutchi. He has regularly performed with various Dutch orchestras since 1993, and has been appointed teacher at the music school in Amersfoort since 2000.
John May studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and attained his 'Performance Musician' diploma in 1983. During his study he also played with many groups such as the 'Slagwerkgroep Den Haag' and the Asko ensemble. After graduating he played for a long time with Harry Sacksioni and Berdien Stenberg, and during this time taught at the music schools in Nieuwegein and Amsterdam. In 1989 he left for America where he composed music for commercials and performed with the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra (Florida). On returning to the Netherlands he came in to direct contact with African music via 'Slagwerkgroep Den Haag' and undertook a collective study trip to Senegal. This was the beginning of Anumadutchi.
Since 1991 he has also been a member of 'Circle Percussion' who are primly interested in Japanese percussion and with whom he's made trips over the whole world. From 1992 he has had his own extensive music school and since 1998 has given lessons at the Technical University in Delft.
He has played on a number of CD recordings including Demis Roussos, Harry Sacksioni Slagwerkgroep Den Haag and Circle Percussion. He has also recorded a solo Cd mainly based on the marimba.
Apart from his musical activities he has also been the manager of 'Het Muziekhuis' in Leiden.
Luuk Nagtegaal (1952) studied under Frans van der Kraan at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where in 1976 he attained his diploma in solo percussion. In 1975 he was employed by the Residentie Orchestra as a percussionist and he was appointed solo timpanist in 1983. Since 1981 he has been the head percussion teacher at the Royal Conservatory. He is also associated with The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Ton Koopman. Luuk was formerly a member of both Circle Ensemble and Slagwerkgroep Den Haag.
René Spierings studied classical percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1993 he attained his diploma in the 'Performance and Teaching of Music', and also received a mention in African percussion. Besides his study, he took part in many master classes such as those conducted by John Cage, Bob Becker, Mauricio Kagel, and the Africans Abraham Kobena Adzenja, Venancio Mbande and Doudou and Aly N'Diaye Rose to name a few. René is presently a permanent member with Anumadutchi and with the theatrically orientated percussion ensemble 'Percossa Percussion'. With these two groups he has developed various productions such as 'Drums of the World', 'Rhythmix', en the collaborative program between Percossa and Cesar Zuiderwijk (Golden Earring), 'Alle gekheid met een stokje'. In the season of 1996-1998, René worked with the cabaret artist Mark van der Veerdonk on 'Boem Beng Kabam'. For this production René composed and performed the music. René also works as a freelancer with various orchestras and ensembles.
Wim Vos trained at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague under the tuition of Frans van der Kraan and followed this training with courses from Mike Rosen and Bob Becker to name a few. He was co-founder of the 'Slagwerkgroep Den Haag' of which he was a member for fifteen years. Before his present appointment with the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague, he was associated with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra for six years. Since 1986 he has been a head teacher at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has been a member of Anumadutchi since its inception for whom he regularly composes pieces.
